Main Street Fire

Mulvane has long been plagued with Main Street fires.  This two block long area is one & two story buildings usually sharing a common wall, built in the 1880's & 1890's.  The few breaks in this two block stretch is mainly due to fire losses that were not rebuilt.  The last major fire was in January 28, 1999 at 10 pm.  These pictures show the Main Street view of this fire.  Mutual Aid Aerial Platform trucks from Derby and Sedgwick County are shown operating here.  The water flow was so great that a Mutual Aid tanker shuttle was set up at two points supplying Engine Companies.

Mutual Aid was requested from Derby Fire Department, Sumner County Dist #9, Cowley County Dist #4, Butler County Dist #3, Sedgwick County Fire Department, Clearwater Fire Department, & Conway Springs Fire Department.

These pictures show the Prather Street view of this fire.  The fire started in a plastic's shop directly behind the Engine in the first two pictures.  It then spread south into a machine shop and north into a winery.  Being feed by an odd wind out of the Northeast, the fire then spread into Rowan's Flower shop, a two story building directly to the west.

These three pictures show the progression of the fire.
