The Year 2011 in Review!

EMS ran 705 calls or 2 per day!

Mulvane Fire Rescue ran 389 calls or 1 per day!

Mulvane Fire hosted Driver Operator / Pumper class.

Mulvane Fire raises $3,077 for MDA in boot drive

Automatic aid agreement between Sedgwick County Fire Department and Mulvane Fire Rescue was signed into effect.

Mulvane Fire Rescue is awarded a VFA Grant from Kansas State Forestry Service for $1,938 for a foam system on Tender 406.

Mulvane EMS receives two new Stryker Power cots. 

MES Fire Prevention crews visited approximately 700 children in 4 preschools and grades K-2 this year.

M.E.S. received a 2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to help replace most of it's UHF radio system to new narrowband digital equipment.  This federal grant to Mulvane was for $26,885.

M.E.S. also received a 2010 Regional AFG Grant in cooperation with the Sumner County Fire Chief's Association.  Mulvane Fire Rescue acted as the host department for the grant.  This grant was for $98,325.  It assisted 9 Fire Departments and 4 EMS Services in Sumner County to purchase 209 new pagers. 

 

Public Safety study was conducted to prepare for the Kansas Star Casino.

New automatic aid agreement between Sedgwick County Fire Department and Mulvane Fire Rescue.

Sedgwick County will now respond to all structures fires west of the BNSF railroad tracks in Mulvane, including Kansas Star Casino & they will send a Tender to the Twin Lakes addition.

Mulvane will respond to structure fires in Peck with a Tender and respond an Engine to an area starting at 95th South & Oliver to 159th East & 119th South.

Semi-fire on Kansas Turnpike.

   

   

This Semi was hauling cars when a fire started in the trailer axle.  Five cars were a total loss, two more were damaged.

Mulvane Fire Rescue is awarded a VFA Grant from Kansas State Forestry Service for $1,938.

Kansas Forestry Service provided $1,938 to purchase a new Hale Foamlogix 2.1 Foam System for Tender 406.  The project included a 12 gallon Foam Tank, front bumper ground nozzle and installation.  Low bid for this work was Emergency Fire Equipment in Mayfield, KS for a total cost of $5,000.

Approximately 250 people visited MES Open House this year.  Open House celebrated the end of Fire Prevention Week.
MES Crews visited approximately 700 children in 4 preschools and grades K-2 this year.  Thanks to all who helped make this a successfully year!

Mulvane Emergency Services receives two AFG Awards.

M.E.S. received a 2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to help replace most of it's UHF radio system to new narrowband digital equipment.  This grant replaces one repeater, 12 mobiles and 14 portables to new narrow band, digital, trunked 450 Mhz equipment.  This equipment would have been obsolete in January 2013 due to new FCC mandates.  This federal grant to Mulvane was for $26,885.

Pro-Comm LMR was low bidder using Kenwood NEXEDGE equipment.

M.E.S. also received a 2010 Regional AFG Grant to replace pagers.  This grant was in cooperation with the Sumner County Fire Chief's Association and Mulvane Fire Rescue acted as the host department for the grant.  This grant was for $98,325.  It will assist 9 Fire Departments and 4 EMS Services in Sumner County to purchase 209 new pagers.   The old pagers would have been obsolete in January 2013 due to new FCC mandates.

Mobile Radio Service was low bidder on this using Motorola Minitor V pagers.

Search AFG Awards 2010

Mulvane Emergency Services is also just finishing up with Sprint-Nextel Rebanding in which we were able to replace eleven (11) 800 Mhz mobiles and eleven (11) 800 Mhz portables with new P-25 digital radios which will operate on the new State 800 Radio System, new Butler County 800 and new proposed Sedgwick County 800 radio system.  This amounted to about $105,000 of new equipment from Sprint-Nextel to Mulvane, M.E.S. paid $14,000 for the digital P-25 upgrades.  Mulvane Police Department also received 10 mobiles and one portable. 

Mobile Radio Service was the contract provider on this using XTL 2500 mobiles and XTS 5000 portables.

  • Porch fire

     

    A bamboo flower pot caught on fire, burning the siding on this residence.  Please be careful where you place your cigarette butts!
    Passing motorists noticed the fire, called 911 and pulled the plant away from the house.

    Fire was contained to a converted attic living space.  A candle was believed to started the problem.
     
         

    Wiring defects were also discovered in the meter box due to age.
